CERAKOTE APPLICATIONS
WHAT IS CERAKOTE?
Simply put, Cerakote is a (polymer composite) ceramic coating applied to metals, plastics, polymers and woods. In addition to enhancing the cosmetic appearance of objects Cerakote also enhances a number of physical performance properties, including:
- Abrasion/Wear Resistance
- Corrosion Resistance
- Chemical Resistance
- Impact Strength
- Hardness
Cerakote Applications
Threatwerx’s primary application of Cerakote is on weapons – no surprise there given that we’re a custom weapons shop. We have found, and our customers have verified, that a Cerakote application on your gun provides a robust and strong shield against the elements – ideal for those who use their weapons out in the real world.
While weapons are our specialty, we can apply cerakote to just about any item you can think of – and given the size of our shop and adjacent capabilities we accommodate large items, odd shaped items and high volume orders.
How is Cerakote Applied?
Applying Cerakote is a multi phase process that includes the following steps
- Disassembly – items are broken down to their component parts
- Sandblasting – Parts are blasted with a fine sanding application to promote adherence
- Degreasing – parts are soaked in a degreasing solution and baked to remove residual oil
- Spraying – parts are sprayed with a protective coating and then baked in a cerakote oven
Variations to the process can be added or repeated such as laser etching or multi-coat patterns.
What to Consider Before Cerakoting Your Item
While there are many shops who offer Cerakote services it’s important that you choose one that has a trained staff, a professional (standards based) shop environment and a sufficient level of experience/artistry. This is especially the case when you are coating sentimental, unique or valuable items, and when you are coating in volume. In these cases, the value of the items far exceeds the price of the procedure and it’s critical to get it right the first time to enhance appearance and maximize performance.
